Single Equality Scheme

We at Great Leighs have had our second Equality Working Group meeting.  Please see below for the minutes.

Minutes for Equality Working Group meeting

25th January 2011

Members present:  Paula Flack (ENCo), Lindsay Grice (Nursery Manager), Carol Overee (Nursery Owner), Linda Callahan (Nursery Assistant), Pam Copeman (Nursery Assistant), Paula Burns (4 Children).

Lindsay Grice took chair and introduced all present.

We reviewed first year of Single Equality Scheme.  The nursery had advertised for staff using newspaper and job centre and a postition was filled by Pam.  We discussed training, all staff is aware of the 2010 Equality Act.  We discussed Stay and Play and confirmed that it will continue.

We looked forward to the next 2 years of the Single Equality Scheme.  We discussed the logistics of evening parent/carer meetings and found that these could be ad hoc as parents needed them.  Lindsay confirmed that a student teacher will be in placement with us in June.  There was further discussion about students from local colleges who had expressed a preference to have their work placements with us.

We are happy with our accessibility audit and feel that we have a user friendly environment.  We are happy with our resources but as  these are used freely/taken home by the children we feel that evidence of them (photos) would be useful.  It was decided that new multicultural dolls and wheelchairs will be purchased.

We discussed extending links with 4 children outreach workers by inviting them to attend a session to mingle with parents.

Thanks were extended to Carol Overee for allowing us to meet at her house and for providing refreshments.

If you have an interest in equality or wish to join our Equality Working Group please speak to your ENCo (Equality Named Coordinator) Paula (Leighs) or Sam (Notley).
